Here are the UNEDITED comments and suggestions sent to me. I have not touched these. Some are more than reasonable...some....welll...give them a read ;-)
I'd like to see a big variety of genres of music being played (like Hack the Planet) and more decorations! Decorations add a lot to the mood.. Here We Go is a great example of that. The decorations, costumes and glow-in-the-dark paint were awesome :)
- call it a party and not a rave if it's til 2-3 am. i hate when it says otherwise, and it's slightly misleading, no? |
- Less 16+ all night parties; start earlier and have same timeslot order but finish by 3am. - Way more control on drug sales/use; offer alternatives (energy drinks, herbal extacy, etc.) Involve police, have zero tolerance policy. - Offer workshops before the party; Ableton Live, Basics of mixing, Basics of production / remixing, even a structured poi workshop.
- separate 19+ area close to the stage - proper security (professional and helpful) - well ventilated dance floor - properly maintained bathrooms (mopped regularly and toilet paper refilled throughout the night) - outside smoking area fenced in, with a security guard - ample seating
-Don't put the ticket price at $30 if there's no headliner from out of town (and by out of town I don't mean someone who's mediocre from Toronto or somehting) -Try to appeal to those who are of age, we're the ones making the bar sales... -Leave the Porg house or retardly experemental shit at home... I need to be able to dance to the music
-I would want to see less of the over used locals ie. Dain-ja and Crash override aka Hip Hop -I would want more consideration in the lineup ie. I Choose You, do not have a metal set at epic hour or at Rave of The Living Dead/Hack The Planet, just because the dj is from another country does not mean they are any good -Less 3 am parties prices at the same prices as all nighters -Less 3 am parties period. Its not a rave, it only attracts younger people, and it leaves people with the difficulty of getting home -Start IDing harder and a prevention program: I do not want to have to babysit little kids that shouldnt be in that enviroment if they are going to be irresponsible with drugs CHILL ROOOM
-More of a focus on putting together quality parties, good acts (including a reasonable flow to the timeslots!) - even if that means fewer parties. -Don't bring an incredible headliner to a party/scene when s/he won't be appreciated (e.g. liar's rosebush at RotLD - astounding musician, but not the environment for him at all!). Bring headliners that the scene wants (e.g. Hard as Fuck - Scott Brown may not be my usual style, but it made for an awesome night to have so many people that hyped for him). -Locals who kick ass make dance floors packed. Even only one well-promoted & hyped headliner (e.g. Luna-C gets excellent hype & buzz from the whole scene when he comes) with proper local support, a decent venue, and effort into sound/lighting/decor, is all we need for a good party. -One good room owns two "decent" rooms.
-seperate rooms, because often people want to escape one kind of music, for example i fucking hate hardstyle, breaks and gabber and when theres only one room it really pisses me off when i have to listen to them -we need more nu rave & electro -More trance -I know its hard but we really do need more overnight parties
-Use fans in the church. Way too hot in there. -People need ins and outs. Lots of people smoke and people feeling too hot or sick should be able to go outside. Outdoor chillout rooms are sometimes too small for this. Only so many people can fit.
-Watch your security. It's important and should be consistent, but overdoing it and having large men harassing people will end up with dissatisfied ravers . -Also, decent coat checks. Paying two dollars to have your coat tossed on a pile is super shitty (I choose you, for example. I could see the change they had, and they couldn't give me change for a five). -An interesting idea: you could sell kandi at the raves. People love it, and say, a dollar a bracelet would be cool.
More tamerax. I only got too see him once this year in Ottawa cause all the other parties got canceled. Even then he was in the shitty hot room at HTP! Why wasn't he in the main room? Shouldn't Crash Override who played around the same time as him been in the small room. Also, less fucking weird d+b. Less promoter fighting in public. I don't have issues with going to raves that end at 3am but at least make them interesting!! Enough with the same locals at EVERY party! So tired of seeing Dain-Ja, Crash Override, Supaman on every rave lineup. Give some of the other locals a chance.
1. Parties are really expensive. I think its ridiculous that you have to pay more money if you come after a certain time. Ex - Boh Canada 2, more money after 12! What the hell! 2. Kids who seem fucked out of their tree shouldnt be allowed to come into the party. I can clearly tell when someone is on drugs - so can you! The promoters complain that they hate when gurny kids come to their parties, well they have all the power to stop them.
A continued effort to hold more outdoor events.
A couple things that i have noticed is the opening on time factor, if i pay for a ticket that says its 8om-8am then i want to be in by 8 and the event to go till 8am (ie: Here We Go Again) I think that some events need more organization and thought so it is planned out to be as flawless as possible, i know it will never be "perfect". If there is a need for more help with promoting or helping set up events you could possibly ask for help(volunteer of course), i know that isnt a perfect solution but more help is better then none.
A GOOD VENUE!!! AND ALL NIGHT PARTYS AT A REASONBAL PRICE AND LESS KIDS UNDER 16
A great example would be the Here we Go Again rave. Musically it was perfect with the main arena area playing the happy hardcore/hardtrance and the upstairs room playnig the harder stuff. Only thing I think all raves should have is some food for sale as this one did not have anything at all. Also, no need to have everyone go deaf so loud music is fine just not overly loud since a bit painful for those of us who still have very good hearing :-)
Always hire "good" sound technicians. Crappy sound = crappy party.
always use curtains in a venue to keep in sound :D
Be clean. Be safe. Be open-minded. Promote Music, not drugs or partying for the sake of partying. Educate the younger partiers on EDM music history... the roots of the music, artists and culture. How can we expect the younger generation to carry on the "rave" traditions and take them in the right direction, if they never know where it came from? If local promoters want ravers of an "older generation" to come out to their events, don't focus theme and promo on the 16 year old crowd. Become more strict with security towards drugs, become more educated about the music and artists who built the scene -don't ignore where this all came from. They can still do something new to help the scene grow without insisting the scene is pigeon-holed into one or two genres of rave music.
Big Hardstyle Rave with a lot of GOOD lightning effect.
BOOK MORE ESTABLISHED CLUB DJS = BETTER MUSIC AND ADDS CREDIBILITY TO THE EVENT
Building a stronger relationship with Ottawa club owners seems to be about the only way to help. The recent cancellations are really the only thing I see preventing Ottawa from being the party town it once was. A better relationship with the local police would help as well, so they stop shutting down the parties on the occasion that they start in the first place. If all else fails, someone should go win the lottery and buy a venue of their own, use it as a club/bar/whatever AND THEN TOTALLY GO OUT OF ITS WAY TO THROW HUGE PARTIES! walls should be (re)movable for a bugger dancing area... which is another thing... huge dance-floor helps, if you find a big place, post pics of it before deco or advertise the sq. footage. people will feel compelled to fill such a large room. I'd got to a party with more floor space over one with less.
Cheaper water and redbull and glowsticks!!!!!!!! After paying our way in and shuttle buses it gets ridiculous the prices of drinks and such to last then entire night. Perhaps more decorations.
Connected - Like DOSE have different venues all connected by the internet, and have each venue have a headliner that plays at each venue, we could have liek 8 venues. lol
Def more colour themes!! And LOTS more NuRave & Electro! Also a wider variety of locals, perhaps some dj competitions? Also, a new nightlife site would be really nice because really, xvi is dead.
Definitely like the all nighters best. Raves at Mavericks suck, it's way too small. Ottawa raves in general kinda suck. Outta towners where we take the shuttle bus are best. Technochurch was THE best rave I have ever been to, and a lot of my friends think the same. The location was great too, we could go in and out as we pleased and there wasn't a busy street right there. That's important. Like at Here We Go (the first one) the security there was awful, they wouldn't even let us go out for smoke breaks...Themes are cool. I'd like to see more happy hardcore being played XD Hope that helps...
Definitely more all night parties. Better venues, even if they are used repeatedly, I don't like events at places like a legion, I'd MUCH prefer to party at a rented warehouse or outside.
Different dj's. Bring in some club djs. Have mulitple rooms. One all house, and one for the harder raver stuff.
dont do drugs
even at 16 plus events it USED to be mostly 17-20 year olds. now its 14 year olds doing 90670 pills nad its gross and unappealing so i havent gone.
extra lights, play all nighters, make a dora the explorer rave!!!!
find new venues more often and play a greater variety of EDM and EBM
first thing i would like to see LESS of, is plain white light, i want lots of lights but i dont want the room to be well lit, i want it dark so the lasers dont look kinda lame--ive noticed that there are rarely any stobe lights at raves(least the ones ive been to :p) m sure theres proly a reason but if posible would love to see some more strobes, and the most important thing (to me anyway) is damn good air flow, if i could go as hard as i do without needing to sit down, not because im tired, but because im to hot, that'd be awsome
For #3, I only chose 19+ events 'cause I normally prefer the music, the age of the attendees doesn't factor in at all For #18 I selected yes but only because I think it's adequate to meet the needs. Most of the time the "security" involves friends or staff members and isn't really security at all, that could certainly be improved upon and should be as the needs arise (with larger attendance, for example)
Free supervised place to hang coats, bags/purses. There has been some but they costed money. Raver merchandise sales.
Free water/Bubble machine
from my experience throwing parties in ottawa, there's nothing really promoters can do better or worse. the small city factor in combination with the bylaw make scene-building next to impossible. the one piece of advice i could give is to completely ignore the old-schoolers who rarely help promote or show up to events, and when they do almost never want to pay. rather than tailoring events to them, appeal to the new school who, though sometimes sketchy, are enthusiastic and willing to help promote. if you want a rave scene the first thing you have to do is cultivate ravers.
from now on i would like to be able to go out for smokes when i want to, not have to wait 45 min in a small entrance way with 100 people. that was the only downside to here we go again, it was bullshit. and the fuckin cops, dont get me started lol
Get a venue that is relative to the amount of people coming. having one packed room with a great vibe is better then 2 half full ones. examples: emotion. one room, amazing vibe. HTP had two rooms packed and one giant room that was empty. the empty one was depressing.
get more single girls out
Guardians of the Twilight - Massive laser cannon visials. Two room plus chill room with those blue crash-pads used in gyms (soooooooooo comfy!) Deelight Two - (first time at Auberge) Wow! Just wow. From the flyer (still best ever) to the dj list. Yet to be topped. Ignite - massive chandeliers, well set up venue.
Gurnies will never NOT be found at any party, but some sort monitering should be done to keep these kids from melting their brains out on meth pills. Clean partying is a wonderful thing. And by clean, I mean good drugs that are in fact what they are sold as. Another thing to see less of is the elitist attitude some of these kids carry when they come out to party. We are all there for a good time, good tunes, and good company. Nobody gives a shit anymore about respect, love, peace, and of all, unity. We all unite on party night, so wahts the point of these jackasses thinking they are entitled to steal other people's things and virtually gutting out the venue with garbage. This is OTTAWA. Its really not all that special, but it can be better, and we can make our Raving atmosphere immaculately awesome core. But that nothing special seems to drive the 16+ goers to destroy venues, nearby buildings, and most of all, the good vibes on the dancefloor. It's sickening, and thank you for making this survey.
Hack the planet did a lot right. Awesome deco, the best chill room I've ever seen, great musical selection, etc. The outdoor smoke/chill/massage room was awesome. I didn't mind the smoke, but I know some people did. That being said, no ins/outs was a very good idea. Last time there was tons of drinking / etc all over the place. Promoters in the future (project d excluded, because they've never had a problem with it) should get all their shit together (venues, buses, everything) BEFORE announcing a party. I'm sick of canceled parties. Also, parties ending early? Sure, it sucks. But I'm not going to be critical and say stop it. Because it's usually not the promoter's fault. I don't know what else to say. I'm sure you'll find more useful suggestions in other submissions.
haha well... I'm new to it so I can't really offer you that much advice. more would be amazing but the ones I've been to thus far have been more than adequate :)
Have more lights (ex. strobe lights, black lights, etc;) more deco have more seats in chillout rooms sell cheap water and other drinks sell snacks bigger venues lower prices for coat check sell glowsticks for cheap give out more free prizes have someone take pictures for the event page on facebook
I dislike seeing the same 5-8 dj's playing at the same events run by 1upped/Project D
I don't have much to say, not too experienced in the scene. Sorry!
I don't like how apparently there's no ins and outs now. If there's such a problem with drugs etc, search people verytime they go inside.
I don't think raves should be held at the Lion's Club or anything of the like. Cafe Deckuf was an alright venue, why not try that again? Employ a street team. Warehouse parties? Field/Farm Parties, this is Ottawa we know we have enough of them. Buy Backstage.
I guess I am not really a raver anymore. As my answer will show. I attend parties and not rave. Thus my answer may be quite useless to you.
I have been pretty impressed with the events this year so far. The small venues, local DJs, it makes things feel improvised, which to me is part of the spirit of raving. What I really love are trippy videos on big screens, kind of like at Pacmania.
i like pie
I like the venues with multiple rooms
I personally like my speedcore/darkcore it would be nice if this style was a little more exposed. It doesnt get enough credit :D
I rave in Toronto a lot and get out to Ottawa raves when I can and I've liked them all so far. Mostly Protect D I think but I don't pay much attention to who is promoting them and so I can honestly say I don't know who promoted them. I find them on Facebook or Purerave and if I'm in town I go. It is about the music and friends for me, I've always raved sober since 1995. I enjoy a predictable and regular venue like DARKRAVE was, and think it would be great to have a venue were ther was a rave the same week every month in Ottawa. I can't understand why there seems to be so much fighting about promoters in Ottawa? just give me something I can dance to and some good friends to dance with and I'll be happy, I wish every one else could be the same.
I think the greatest possible thing any local promoter could do would be to throw an all-night party downtown. I realize how difficult the dickheads at city council have made this, but if achieved it would ammount to an epic party. also, it would be really nice if staff members didnt randomly steal people's weed just because they can. Other drugs its alright and probably good if they revoke it.. but weed? come on. everybody smokes weed, and we all know they're just going to smoke it themselves. not cool.
I think the worst thing about the scene right now is all of the events that get announced but don't happen. I bought my citrus 2 tickets really early, but it was cancelled, and I couldn't get my money back from norml. Now I hear that hivemind isn't happening? WTF? I wanted to see Kj Swaka. This shit needs to stop.
I wanna see less attitude. More unity.
I want in and out's it sucks for people who aren't smokers to but stuck in a area full of smoke when they want fresh air after dancing their ass off for 6 hours. I want more themes, and all night parties, more attractions :)
I want promoters and club managers to be more stringent with the age limit.. I'm sick and tired of seeing kids that are 13 attending raves when they're promoted as 16+ this is definetly one of the more important things that need to be managed
I want there to be more people attending the events
I want to hear LOUDER chest-pumping happy hardcore, bigger venues, larger crowds, and most of all...PLUR¢¾. Here We Go 1 had it...what happened?
I want to see less fuck ups by Promotion teams, More peace among promotion teams too, Whats really ruining the scene, is whats behind it,if there wasn't so much dramam , I'm sure Ottawa could get the sceneback(somewhat) again.
I want to see less of douchebag danny, and more djs who know actually how to put a needle on a record.
I want to see more emphasis being put on transforming the venue from a blank hall into a completely different world through deco and lighting. Even though Here We Go was at Backstage, it didn't feel like the same venue because so much was put into creating a different atmosphere. I was a little bit annoyed about Hack the Planet being at the techno church again, but it ended up looking far more awesome than I could have imagined. When a lot of effort is put into creating atmosphere, the same venue can be used quite a few times without really feeling like the same place. Then (just maybe) people will stop bitching about venues getting overused. I know that parties aren't really art galleries, but I always like it when there are local artists showing their work or even creating pieces during the night. Actual food should definately be sold at concession stands when the venue isn't close to a late-night convenience store. It really helps keep people going a lot better than just energy drinks. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just granola bars or something. I really like the idea of a chill room. The only party I've been to that had a chill room was Hack the Planet, which was a great idea but wasn't really executed in the best possible way. It sort of turned into a dark crowd of confusion and cigarette smoke and that wasn't really pleasant. I'd love to see a chill room at a party in the future with quieter music, more lights, more seating, and less of a slant. I would love it if more parties had definate themes. When there's a theme, I'll spend a lot of time before the party trying to figure out what to dress up as, and that gets me a lot more hyped. The Here We Go parties and Rave of the Living Dead had awesome themes which contributed a lot to how excited I was for them. Hack the Planet had a good idea, but since you'd have to see the movie to really get the theme it was lost on a lot of people.
I want to see more fidget house, electro, minimal, tech-house, and techno. I also would like to see more of a variety of local DJs.
I want to see the legal form of ecstasy being sold at ottawa raves. it's not hard to obtain, and this way I would go to more raves in hopes that the little kiddies would use that "E" instead of the street one so I don't have to deal with their "E"-tardedness. Little "E"-tard are a huge reason I don't go to raves. Check out the legal ecstasy at http://www.purepillz.com
I wish Ottawa wasn't so clique-y. I mean, people have to have a more openmind when it comes to parties.
I would like the security to be tighter so that fake ID's can not be used, andi don't see twelve year olds on drugs everywhere.
I would like to see a lot more parties that are 19+ or that if they are 16+ parties to have a tight security and to actually check ID and have alcohol served at the party. For us that don't do drugs and like going to raves it sucks if their isn't alcohol and yes I know it's hard to get a license but if you want a good party get it! Or some of us that are older and don't do drugs dont want to go waist our money on that party!
I would like to see more happyhardcore. and less gross hardstyle. hardstyle should just never exist. you know what would be sweet. if hardstyle just stopped existing. i'd be so pumped. but seriously though.... i dont like when we are told a rave will open at a certain time and them it opens 2 hours late. it would be cool if ...... deco wasnt only cardboard.
I would like to see more honesty in flyers - that is, when an event says it will have "massive deco" or "crazy giveaways", it would be nice if that actually occurred. Sometimes it does (HWG, HWGA) and sometimes it doesn't (HtP, RotLD). Also, I think Ottawa would benefit greatly from higher knolwedge of substances and their effects - we really need a harm reduction group like OATS, TRIP or GRIP.
I'd like for Promoter's to stop with the ticket prices. It's a needless cashgrab. I've been going to less and less raves lately, as well as many others with how prices continuiously go up by the week. It's understandable in concerts where prices range from where your located, in perspective to the stage. Raves are completely different. You could be standing by someone who paid $30 to go, and you've only paid $15. It might be fine for 16 year olds who dont have a job to be able to pay a month in advance as they wouldn't have a shedule. But for us older folk, who have part-time or full-time work, it makes it harder for us to know our shedule's so far inadvance to get decent price tickets. The way raves in Ottawa have been lately, they arent't worth $30 for a night. Clean up the security, last minute venue changes (from a decent place to somewhere 45 minutes out of town is unacceptable), promoter in-fighting, etc. The good side is that the sound, Dj's, lights, decor, are awesome and provide a great atmosphere
I'd like to see breakdown on drugs. Like Soap handing out drug information flyers is a nice idea, except it doesn't get the job done. As for anymore I'm too lazy to think and type anymore, and I don't even Rave anymore so yea >.>.
I'd like to see more club nights, that maybe start earlier... that tends to reduce the amount of drugs that people feel they need to take. Reduces the sketch-factor of events. CLEAN (& plentiful) BATHROOMS! Reasonably priced water Visuals/video--really adds to atmosphere Appropriate sound system management (EQ, etc)--NOTE: louder does NOT equal better. My ears should NOT still hurt when I'm wearing ear plugs. I'd like to be able to hear the music, not the ringing of tinnitus. Good ventilation
I'd like to see more events which are more accessible. Out of town events are great but in the times between 12 and 5am.. there should be a bus running at least once an hour.
I'm not sure how difficult it is to find security, but I think it's really important to have good security that do their job but at the same time aren't total jerks. The security at backstage was shit, glad that's over. I'd like to see people getting tougher on the drug scene when it comes to rave's, I wan't to be able to enjoy myself with my friends and not have cracked out kids running around hugging people they don't even know and trying to glowstick in random people's faces without poking their eyes out. Overall I think the rave scene is doing alright for itself. Just a few minor adjustments and we should be good.
I'm very happy with the big parties that I have attended. Two Tribes was awesome 5 years ago and HWGA was equally awesome last month
I've been raving for over a decade, it's changed a bit, but it's still the same great feeling every time. The only gripe I have happened to me at Hack the Planet - all my water bottles were stored in my car, and they told me if I left to go outside, I wouldn't get back inside. I like to rave, but buying water inside gets hard on the pocket after a while. lus, the chill room was packed and I need SPACE when I'm cooling off. Other than that, no complaints!
if there is a chill room outside with smoking i think there needs to be an area where non smokers can go. at hack the planet i was very dissapointed that if i wanted fresh air i had to go breathe in tons of cigarette smoke, which makes me feel extremely nauseous. i was not impressed and im not sure if i would even go to another party that was set up like that, and i have been going regularly for over 2 years and love raving.
Im from rochester NY USA, I travel far.
Immersive deco (Here We Go Again's hanging squad things and the deco around the dj booth.) Hack The Planet's outdoor chill room was really great, but not being able to go out the front was a fatal flaw of the party. I disliked how non-alcohol unopened beverages were not allowed into Hack The Planet, I thouhgt that was a little ridiculous and very inconvenient.
It's not a bad scene. The big problem is people become jaded too fast.
Its better to have a huge event every few months than to have a small party every month. It would be fun to have more non-party events for the rave scene like Ravers on Ice, Poi in the Park etc. More new local talent. It seems the scene goes through phases of favoring the same local djs for a few months.
Keep the Drugs out, Keep the Drama out, and keep the friends and fun in. Plur.
keep your flyers to 2 typefaces otherwise they are mad tacky
less 12 year olds with soothers. =) less idiots giving the scene a bad name hanging around more awareness, and ads and such to get the word out to new and awesome people who arent 12 with soothers. =) it's a factor i concider when i come to raevs these days concidering i dont do drugs. they werent as annoying when i was just as high as them with a soother, and also 14-15 coming to 16+ events
less 16yr old candy ravers, older crowd
Less candy raves, there should be more events for people ranging from 25 and 30 somethin (the after hour crowd). More House, techno, tech-house electro-house for a mature crowd, music aimed at the older ravers from back in the day. I personaly wouldn't attend any D&B, hardcore, hard-trance or HHC event.
less concentration on big venues that cant be filled to max capacity. makes a party look weak. more free stuff....cd's. FRUIT!! people love free shit. especially after dropping 20+$ on a ticket.
less d&b
Less drugs. More 19+ parties, or parties that are completely seperate from the childish Kandy raves. I don't think +20's enjoy sharing space and music with gurning children, and likewise. There should be seperate parties or at very least seperate rooms/areas (like 19+ rooms in 16+ parties). Less raves thrown by Danny. More professional security, not just friends doing pat downs. They let their own friends through and are biased, which ruins the whole idea of security. I don't care how difficult it is to get the permit, get it for all night. If you don't, don't bother with the party. It shows you're not really trying/care about the party that much. Besides that, what happened to illegal warehouse raves of yesteryear? Why does no one throw those anymore?
Less in-fighting between promotion companies. Rave isn't like some gang territory. Everyone wins the more parties happen and the more promotion companies help eachother out and cross-promote at. I am tired of people pointing fingers at eachother for the reason why their own parties failed. They should look in the mirror and learn from their mistakes. Becuase of the unreliabilty of other promotion companies (excluding project d) I hesitate and dont buy tickets becuase i dont want to lose money on a party that will be canceled the day of or a week before and no body gets refunds. This hurts the rave scene becuase events people want to go to get canceled and then when the next party is announced they are more reluctant to go becuase the peg all promotion companies as "sketch". This HAS to stop. I've been raving now for 6 years and this dramatic atmospher is whats turning me off of rave.
less lasers. please :( im scotomaphobic and whenever there are lasers i can't look up from the ground) or atleast get low powered ones.. there was an incident in moscow when lasers at a rave were so powerful that they blinded a dozen of people and left more with serious eye damage. like i know lasers are a part of raves but just get less intense ones :(
Less of: Underage Kids Sketch Bags (remember we have ROAR) Drugs Venues downtown More of: Large parties with shuttle buses Local Talent (support locals) a scene
less parties in arenas right next to houses. good job on the party but horrible location ( HWGA) too many OPP
Less promoter on promoter flaming. Some promoters need to learn when to bow down when they definitely don't do as well as others, instead of blindly ranting on about their 'amazing' parties, that really weren't that great. Although working together is never easy, it's usually better for everyone involved if civil, rational actions are taken between promoting teams within the same city. Within in every company there is a structure and rules, and it seems this hasn't yet been established within our rave scene. The mentality i've heard from some promoters of "i throw parties so I can play at them" needs to go away, stop being so selfish and start throwing parties for the people.
less public scrutiny over small details. More positive comments and pro-active focus by the promoters and local djs. In other words, there is a severe lack of tolerance in the local electronic music scene. People should learn to really appreciate what they have and spend less time publically bitching about everything and anything.
less pushy promotion, less of the same locals at every.single.party. more drug awareness material, better sound equipment.
Less Rave Drama, More PLUR, and More parties
Less rooms so more people are packed into one, more intense atmosphere Less extensive searches, let the kids have fun instead of waiting in line for hours Less of the nerdy rave themes, turns some people away from the scene Less security, makes the kids feel tense and uneasy More openess
less sketchy kids,(bring soap back!!!!!!!). rave is dying, EDM parties are still happening. less sketchy kids(dont condone letting in minors.) more intersting ideas for parties, not just theme.
Less the only raves being put on by Danny. MORE OF OTHER STUFF TOO! A scene can't and won't florish with only a small group trying at all. More SOAP and more respect for where andwhen to do drugs, don't COME to the rave already e'ed or 'ked out if you're going to do it, you make an ass of yourself.
less trance
less underage kids. promoters/door staff really need to start turning people away without proper ID less drama more fun.... as awesome as it is to watch promoters fight among each other it doesn't help the scene question 19 will only be a yes if the people that are doing it take it seriously and professionally. otherwise there's no point.
Less underagers New Venue or better use of old ones Alcohol service
Less wierd music, more variaty in main rooms. More slower stuff for mains rooms, no more wierd experimental stuff. Deco, we have witnessed what a deco team can do with the last 2 raves, lets keep it up. Less bitching from the older crew, we went through these stages when we where 15 and what not. These kids need to be tought proper, not to be dissed and such, they are the rave future once we are gone.
LESS young kids just looking for a place and reason to do drugs. More emphasis on the music and VIBE of the overall party! More 19+ sections offering alcohol to those of age without necessarily excluding the 16+ crowd.
Less - - - - More : - sketch - Variety - danny - Music - drama - People - stupid promoters - Responsible partiers - same locals - Out of town talent - open space - good vibes - bitches - friendliness - rave in a box -DECO!!! In's and Out's are SUPER important. I do not want to be forced to stay in one area all night before I go home. FUCK THAT. I absolutely hated what Danny did at Hack The Planet. I want to be able to go on a walk to where ever, not have to be constantly around silly ravers. I want to see more effort in the scene. Better staff (not just friend's of promoters). I want to see SOAP back, thats so important since we have such a huge drug problem (rolls eyes). I want to see good security, but not security that will throw away my apple? Cause you cannot really hide drugs in an apple, and i do get hungry after a while. I want to see security actually doing their job... not just standing around... and not only searching bags, but walking around the party seeing if anyone needs help, or if they see a kid consume drugs to kick them out. I do not want to see security go up to drug dealers and say "give me free drugs or else you can't come in" cause that is total bullshit (ive seen it happen atleast 10 times in the past 4 months). LESS SKETCH... on both parts (staff + ravers).
Letting us bring in water would be awesome. Or giving free water. I mean, seriously, $3 for water?! That's outrageous! Lots of ravers have to drink directly from the tap. Also, the bathrooms are generally disgusting. Can they be cleaned a few times a night? Or heck, could security wander through there a few times? Thirdly, a chill room would be awesome for people to sit in when they get tired, especially when at all-night raves. Most kids can't last all night. I know I can't. Shuttle buses should go back earlier (like, an hour after the party starts?) that way kids who have curfew can still show up but can get back on time.
like in the pass years. 2 to 3 rooms , last minute details. yellow buss . outside. all of de above
make sure no one under the age of 16 gets into this fukin rave, and no one shits on a dance floor or it's not in the middle of a community
Many things, a sex themed rave, a digimon themed, rugrats themed, dragonball z themed, pijama themed
Mixes, I can't get enough mixes, And more raves, PERIOD! We need alot more, they are so few and inbetween, that I barely even bother going anymore,I would go more often, if they were held more often, and IN Ottawa, not Quebec, Like... Basckstage(however corupt it was) Is missed.
more advertising for more people more decorations At here we go, the party ended early, more organization in that respect Also, the music had to be turned down, for me, killed the buzz of the party other things out of control of the promoters... like cleaner pills, and less people that are seemingly anti-drug
more backstage. haha too bad it could never happen in a million years and even if it could no one would want to XD less sketchy dirt squirrels. but this can also never happen in a million years. but seriously i don't actually have anything to complain about that isn't ridiculous.
more blacklight... every party should be blacklighted,, also more strobe!.. more couches... food at concession... fans/AC... during the summer have like freezies/popsicles.. itd be awesome in my opinion if the dj's and staff dressed up like to the nines...
More chicks. Sausage fests suck.
more chill rooms, better deco, more visual projections, less people under 18
More community and collaboration, less drama between promoters More creative lineups in terms of variety of genres and headliners who haven't played in Ottawa before (or who haven't played here in a long time)
More concept shows that involve art & technology. If Montreal can get govt funding for shows like this, why can't we?
More deco as Hack the Planet demonstrated, it just adds so much more to a party.
More deco like that from Here We Go Again Virgin or less used venues, but I understand it's harder to obtain with the by-law Less of the same 5 locals on the lineups. We've all seen cheshire, supaman, crash override/hip hop, dainja and emm enough times to have their tracks memorized. More outdoor parties, but again I'm sure it's hard to do with the legal restrictions. Multiple rooms are awesome Proper air ventilation/cooling
More deco, more top tier headliners.
more decos, giveaways, more smoke breaks, less security.
More drugs. More better drugs. More better free drugs. More hot underage girls.
More Drum and Bass and Jungle. 4x4 music has complete dominance over Ottawa's scene and it blows. A bit of dubstep and more dark psy would be appreciated too.
More drum and bass my selecta. A good sound system with tight bass is key too, obviously... it doesn't have to be the Valve Sound System or anything, but I'm always terribly disappointed when the low end is lacking at an event, dnb or not. Oh, and no happy hardcore.
More engaging deco, ie. Hack The Planet's robot, Here We Go Again's boxs and controller Better timeslot planning. Here We Go Again's was done well, Hack the Planet's was not. I was unhappy with the way unopened, non-alcoholic beverages were NOT allowed into Hack The Planet, I thought that was very inconvenient and out of place.
more events like Here We Go and Pacmania
More evil drum and bass! Better drum and bass in general. More jungle shows. OUTSIDE venues!
more girls. less clothes.
More good psytrance/psytrance rooms, less happy hardcore, a place to chill outside is a MUST (you need to cool off/smoking is nice)
More Hard Dance/Hardstyle/Techno at 16+ parties. Think Carefully about your headliner, I think losing money on parties could be avoided if less money was spend on headliners, or if the headliners booked we're more well known and not obscure. I think a lot of the headliners booked lately only appeal to a small demographic... try booking someone like Madam Zu or Lisa Lashes to get the older people out as well as the young ones.
More lasers, more smoke, more strobes, better air conditioning (air flow is enough), if selling glow sticks -- better prices, cheaper water, less white light (dark enough to see light effects), cheaper all night raves, cheaper 3am raves
More Lights, and Bigger sound. And a air-conditioned chill out room, most of the raves i go to its too hot to dance for a long time, and the chill out room is just as hot or hotter then the dance area. And usually too much people trying to enter/exit the rave to get out to the cool air fast
More live P.A., more beer, less kids on methy pills...
More often!!!!
more parties with bigger crowds, moreinviting people and friends, friendlier staff, enjoyable decoration and vibes, longer party hours.
More parties with diversity. Less drama between promoters. The less you say in public, the better.
More parties, more Facebook spamming...bigger names (international DJ's) at good locations. Sunrise and Heaven are too small, and too 'usual'...even when you can get a big name, it's still the same place, same old same old. Not to say it isn't good, but it would add to the 'awe factor; if you switched it up and put the show / sets in a cool, off the beaten path place.
More Parties,More Promotions,Realiability of venues and permits.
more psy trance!!!
more rob solo less no rob solo every past party with rob solo was the best. every past party without rob solo sucked donkey balls. Ignore every answer in this survey that has rob solo in the answer. Except the one about booking him.
More security would be beneficial, the security at Here we go again seemed ample. Venue for that party was also good, the music wasn't too loud, and the higher work required to attend rave might have kept the thugs and drug dealers away. (Ie if someone only wanted to go to a rave to sell or do drugs, they wouldn't really want to have to travel 10 km to get high) This is probably why backstage nightclub had such a problem with drug dealers, it was in a central location, and anyone was able to get in.
More trance!
more urban music, a non-hardcore headliner, dubstep/dancefloor in the main room with a prime slot (between midnight and 5am at least)
more variety in djs at raves. recently there have been many parties that all tend to have the same few dj's and a lot of people have grown tired of that
MORE: HappyHardcore && Hardstyle How about MORE RAVES!!!!! LESS: 13 year old strung out little kids overdosing on the dance floor... as for the question # 24 underneath this.... the rave scene in ottawa is slowly dying... it needs TLC get the backstage venue back call it something else!! COME ON TAKE 2. lol PCE.
My only concern with a handfull of Ottawa raves is how the ticket price raises. Please quit messing with the poor ravers. Charge what ever you want, $15, $20, $30, just please, if you are going to sell them, sell them at one price, and one price only.
n/a
na
no
no idea
No ins and outs makes sense, however a designated smoking area preferrably outside under the stars (with atmosphere) is a good idea - if it rains - a tent. HWGA was tough because they locked us in for a period of time, which may not have been an issue for all, but the feeling can get claustrophobic. Possibly more immediate rides, like in the morning - when everyone is shooting for a spot on the first bus. Another bus there might alleviate the morning tension of getting on a bus. More rooms, and more promotion. I'm new to the rave scene, but I like what goes on at them, and I hear, the bigger, the better. Promotion of responsibility should be evident as well.
not at this time
not enough hardstyle & hardtrance music , i would like to see more hard dance scene just like DFF as example
Open on time plz thx. Nothing worse than tardiness. The non-alcohol parties are good despite what everyone thinks. Safer and cleaner. No underage drinking.
Ottawa neds a decen venue , like Surface/CCMH was after it was expanded , Mavericks is not good for afterours , small PA , poor lighting bad/no acoustics .....Barrymores could be tunred into a wicked superclub tht coud be licensed for overnighters. It could be Ottawa's Aria nightclub.
Outdoor chill room from Hack the Planet was a great idea; the bigger the room, the better (can fit more people, and it will be less hot); Try to keep the rave going the full time, and not end early (Pacmania, Here we go again).
Personally I'd like to see alot more Harder Dance DJ's playing at the bigger shows...(Gabber, Schranz, Hardstyle, Hard Trance, Hard House) I think that part of the scene lacks here, lots of people love the harder music but what i see gets played is alot of HHC... Don't like it at all to be honest but shmeh, theresn't a thing I can do about it... =P Thats about the only thing keeping me from going to the big 3 room parties and what not, I look at the line up and I'd only enjoy a couple of the acts out of the multiple rooms... but thats a personal thing =D
place enough flyers in smart places where there will be lots of pedestrians, in universities and colleges, NO high schools!
Please less break and jungle and more hard trance at parties. It seems like the same djs play at every event which makes it boring.
Promoters going all out for sick venues, lots of room, sponsors (e.g. red bull), outside city limits with big headliners. I'm thinking along the lines of Knite in Paradise and Two Tribes.
Proper sound techs being used, or consulted about how to setup a rave sound system.
Put a lot of thought and effort into the venue, make sure it is not in a rural area where cops or people around can call by-law or whoever else. be aware of the kids coming in and stop making exceptions for friends who are selling/doing drugs. as someone who likes to party for the music, it gets really tiring watching little kids hopped up and making out everywhere or talking to you obnoxiously or stroking you. put some real heart into deco. i know it seems like a small thing, but deco and headliners truly do make the party that happy-raver-magic kinda feeling start bringing in local djs from montreal and maybe doing some shows with them. it never hurts to get others opinions, and maybe their dj's or promoters will bring a fresh perspective to our scene here in ottawa networking is the way to go to make it really blow up.
Quality instead of Quantity no more 45min-1hour sets!!!!!! Book some local live performances instead of DJ's all the time, there are quite a few producers in ottawa hire sound technicians to tune the system before the event and monitor it throughout. NO MORE MONO SYSTEMS!
raves closer to bus stops esspicially the 95! hand-out candy!! like at hack the planet
Reinstate 19+ (18+ in QC) drinking areas at 16+ events.
security teamwork less tolerance of wankery the partys we used to throw with synergy were good parties. and millman just afterwards. those were good parties. whatever it took to make those work like that, thats whats needed.
security that actually does something, better awareness of surroundings, more crackdown on 12 year old drug abusers (not to say NO DRUGS!, but ensuring those who choose to do drugs know what they are doing, and are not overdoing it at parties)
see more security at events
Some comments would revolve around things that are out of control of the promoters control. (shuts down, attendance and so on)
Someone should win the lottery, buy out the government, and build a massive 24/7 rave complex.
Something that exits this "group of friends that we allow to play at our ottawa raves" which is EXTREMELY lame and has entirely lost my interest in raves ( in ottawa that is)... Make raves business NOT friends, make friends while you're at it... but don't let that stuff get in the way of throwing a wicked party... it IS business, people ARE paying... please do them a favor and put the business aspects of the event first rather than sloppily inviting all their friends to do all the work to cut costs...
Sound is number one. It is about the music, so treat it that way! Pay your DJs, give perks to your staff and above all have your sound system working before the party. Everything else could suck, and people would still have fun.
sounds quality is paramount
Stop allowing sketchy people to destroy the positive work which has been done.
Stop cancelling parties.
Stop taking my empty water bottles.
Stop using the same local dj's over and over again! It gets annoying! As much as I like, Dain-Ja for example, a change in genre would be nice. As for venues, how about not fucking up someone else's party who are using that same venue a few weeks later. (Here We Go Again is to blame) I'm showing up less and less to the stupid 16 + events cause it's nothing but a sketch fest. The scene has changed a lot in the passed three years. I am glad there's parties like DFF for 19+
Strobe lighting and laser lights are one thing I would like to see more of.
The cost of raves versus the quality of the party does not add up. I find that paying 20$ for locals in a 3am venue is rediculous. The fact that the promoters want to throw more parties should be the last thing on their mind. An amaizing party that only happened every few months would be an excellent way to bring up the reputation on the ottawa rave scene. Currently I find Ottawa parties repetive, boring, overpriced and in a crappy venue that makes dancing and sound quality uncomfortable. Having to travel on a shuttle but to a far away venue makes the party seem that much more exciting in my opinion. I have stoped going to most, almost all Ottawa parties. I have found that the attendees have become horrible excues for humans, to put in bluntly. Selestial 2 was my first party and thats is what really got my into the scene. If I had know what Ottawa parties were going to turn into I would have stayed clear. New promoters have deffinatelly ruined the rave scene reputation.
The really complicated "in and out" processes at the last two parties have been incredibly frustrating. The line up at HWGA to *leave* the building was ridiculous, i hated having to wait to go cool off... and the "chill out" room at hack the planet was cramped and loud. I know its impossible to make everybody happy, but being able to take a breather when i need it is essential to a good night of partying... the heat and the music can get overwhelming. Hiring security outside of the promotion company or their friends should be implemented for unbiased searching. Yeah it might cost more, but even if you end up losing a bit of money because of it... no one got hurt.
Themes, deco, more interesting activities throughout. I hate when parties are way out of town, it sucks. I would prefer a 3am party that was 19+ that started earlier and served liquor. I'd like to hear more DnB and breaks I would like Danny to stop bragging about himself all the time.
there sould be a an old school trance rave that would be cool im getting to old to dance all night on hard lol
To be honest, the SAME FUCKING LOCALS at every single party is a slap to the face of all the djs in ottawa that stuck through when the there was nothing left, but now every party is 100% garunteed the ninji crash overide cheshire joe rowe supaman dainja OK WE GET IT, WE'VE SEEN THEM PLAY EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PARTY FOR 2 YEARS NOW.
Two or three rooms with different music styles is awesome.
Watch room size and water price. It freaking blows having to make $1.50 for alcohol and $5.00 for water.
we need to have some fetish raves, like the ones in montreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well i like the rooms to be big such as at Here We Go Again where they used half of a hockey arena as one of the rooms
Well I think that raves with themes work very well to attract a lot of people with similar interests. Ex. The Pokemon themed rave attracted people who wouldn't normally go to a rave. It's the same with the "Here we Go!" Mario themed rave. I think that more raves of this kind would definitly boost the number of potential ravers and would get new people on the scene. :D
What I'd like to see more of are more parties that are planned very much in advance and to great detail. I find that these parties tend to be much more successful, such as Hack the Planet. A good selection of concessions are always great too. I like the concept of chillout rooms too, provided they are nicely ventilated and not stifling. Nice deco is always a plus.
What's a brotha gotta do to get some Trancecore in this bitch! XD More Psy. I think chill out rooms are a great idea... the one at HTP was pretty killer except i noticed some people just never left and missed out on alot of the party... but don't get me wrong the ambient was amazing. Better Flyering.
Would love to see more Deco, more promoting would be nice too. People should be more aware of leaving drama at the door.
